Eusebio Sempere

Eusebio Sempere (1923–1985) was a central figure in the development of geometric abstraction in postwar Spain. Trained in Valencia and shaped by his formative years in Paris, he engaged deeply with constructivism, kinetic art, and the European avant-garde.

His work is characterized by a rigorous exploration of light, rhythm, and perception through precise lines, geometric structures, and chromatic vibration. Working across painting, relief, printmaking, and sculpture, Sempere developed a visual language rooted in order and luminosity, offering the viewer an active and immersive experience.

Recognized internationally, his work has been exhibited at major institutions and biennials, including the Venice Biennale, and is held in collections such as the Museo Reina Sofía, Centre Pompidou, and The Museum of Modern Art. Sempere’s legacy endures as a refined and influential contribution to 20th-century abstraction.
