Alexandre Monntoya (1974 ) was born in Roldanillo, Valle del Cauca, Colombia. His artistic journey began in a self-taught manner, with formal studies in perspective at the INEM school in Pereira, where he graduated as an Industrial High School student. At just 22, he opened a small gallery in Cali, further immersing himself in drawing and developing relationships with other local artists. In 2001, he made the bold decision to leave his gallery in Colombia and move to Spain to expand his artistic horizon. Despite facing challenges, Monntoya continued to grow and evolve, driven by his desire to become a prominent painter.
His artistic goal is to reach the unconscious mind, creating sensations that resonate with the viewer and connect them to deeper feelings. Monntoya admires a wide range of artists, including Caravaggio, Revello de Toro, Fernando Botero, Michael Douglas, and Gotfried Helnwein, but he does not claim a singular favorite. His primary muse is the woman, admiring her delicacy, natural elegance, and the sensitivity she embodies. Monntoya’s work reflects his meticulous attention to detail and his dedication to achieving technical perfection, with each piece carrying emotional depth that invites reflection.
Monntoya’s career has been marked by significant milestones, establishing his reputation with his first prize in Valle del Cauca. His works, particularly in hyperrealism, have gained attention from collectors who appreciate the technical mastery and emotional connection of his pieces. When he was 24 years old he won first prize of “Young Artist of the Year” in his region Vallecaucano, Colombia.
