Manuel Martínez Lamadrid

Manuel Martínez Lamadrid (1921) is recognized as one of Spain’s most celebrated watercolorists. A graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts,  his technical background imbued his art with a unique structural precision. Lamadrid has been dedicated to capturing rustic corners and historic buildings before they disappeared due to modernization.

His technique is characterized by a profound study of light; after losing vision in his left eye, he mastered the use of cast shadows to define volume and “mark the territory of the paper,” creating depth without relying solely on binocular vision.

Manuel Martínez Lamadrid holds a distinguished place in the history of Spanish art. His career was decorated with the most significant awards in his field, including the Medal of the National Watercolor Council, the AEDA Medal from the Madrid City Council, and multiple medals at the Autumn Salons of Painters and Sculptors.

He served as Honorary Vice President of the Spanish Association of Watercolorists (AEDA). His works continue to be valued in the market, frequently appearing in auction houses across Spain and France.
